Hello families!

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! Enjoy your special day doing something that brings you joy!

It is hard to believe that we only have one week of school left! Our last day of school in Friday, June 26. If you're child will be leaving earlier than this date for a vacation, please let your child's teacher know in advance so that we can get all their belongings together to send home early.

PLAY DAY

Play Day is Wednesday morning. Dress for varied weather and bring a water bottle as some activities will be outside.  (Students can come with sunscreen on but teachers won’t be helping apply it here.)

On Play Day we are providing Freezies. PARENTS THAT DO NOT WANT THEIR CHILD TO HAVE ONE MUST EMAIL THE TEACHER and can send an alternative treat for their child to enjoy that day.

BANNOCK MAKING

On June 22nd our grade one students will be participating in learning and making Bannock.  If you do NOT want your child to eat Bannock, please email your child’s homeroom teacher BEFORE the day itself.  If your child IS allowed to eat Bannock, no action is required on your part.
We will provide a Gluten Free option for those that require Gluten Free. Please inform your child's homeroom teacher if your child requires the Gluten Free option.
Bannock ingredients include:
Flour, baking powder, salt, water, milk, and oil

Important Reminders:
Almost all of our Learning Commons books have been returned but we are still missing a few books. If your child has not returned theirs please look closely around your home so that you are not charged for the missing book.

Report Cards open to parents on Thursday.

This week we:
  • reviewed rhyming words, read some poems and found some rhyming words in the poems!

  • learned about symmetry and how to look for a line of symmetry in an image to determine of it is symmetrical or not. Students used a mirror to help them look for the line of symmetry.

  • talked about harmful substances that are found in our kitchens, bathrooms, garages and outside that can be a solid, liquid or gas. Students learned that they should stay away from these substances as they can make us sick is we taste them, drink them, get them on our skin or breathe in the gas.

  • had a visit with two snakes! We all did a wonderful job of staying quiet with no sudden movements. We learned about the snakes and we had the opportunity to touch the snakes. Students were so brave and learned that snakes don't have to be scary.

  • reviewed the many different feelings that we can have and how to sort them into four different zones. Ask your child to tell you about the different zones of regulation and the energy level we have for each zone.
  • played real life Mario Kart in gym! Students had to push a partner around an obstacle course, trying to avoid any mats or cones in their way.

  • discussed Indigenous culture, specifically the Blackfoot culture. We learned a couple of words in Blackfoot including "oki" which means "Hello!"
  • worked in our visual journal to document what we wear in summer!
