 Hello families,

It was lovely to see so many of you at our Family Literacy Event on Thursday!

Field Trip Forms

Thank you to everyone who has sent back the signed field trip form! If you have not yet done so please do so by early next week.  If you have misplaced the form please let us know and we will send home another one. If you have contacted us about volunteering (and you are cleared to volunteer) and you received a volunteer form, please send it back as well! (If you are in the process of getting your police clearance in order to come with us, please let us and Mrs. Brinson know when your police clearance has been completed and we will send home a volunteer field trip for for you to complete.)

*Due to the field trip taking place on May 9th, any Cobb's orders made for that day will be given out and sent home with your child at the end of the day.

The high frequency words we studied this week are:

number

because

which

small

As part of our literacy week, students engaged in different whole school literacy activities including 'stop, drop and read' and 'whole school read out'!

This week we:

  • learned that 'c' makes another sound! It makes an /s/ sound when it is in front of an 'e', 'i' and 'y' (in words such as 'city', 'cycle' and 'cent')

  • learned that 's' makes a /z/ sound when it is near the end of many words! (like 'rise' and 'leaves')

  • listened to a variety of read alouds such as "Mrs. Fox's Class Goes Green" and "10 Things I Can Do to Help my World" to help us understand ways we can help the environment!
  • worked really hard on some more 'how-to' writing. This week we wrote about "how-to" take care of
our environment! Ask your child what they wrote about!

  • sorted activities depending on if they are good for our environment
  • started learning about different types of communities! Ask your child what they know so far about urban and rural communities. We started making lists of what we see in urban and rural communities.
  • worked on an art project to represent an 'urban' community!

  • learned and practiced how to share equally by creating two equal groups using up to 10 objects! Ask your child how they would share a group of objects equally.

  • learned how to share equally by splitting something in half!

  • practiced gymnastics skills (such as travelling in different ways and balancing) in gym

And finally, we had a picnic-style snack on Friday!
