We are so excited to welcome the first day of spring tomorrow! Hopefully, we continue to have the warm temperatures that we have had this week! We hope all families have a wonderful Spring Break! We look forward to seeing you back to school on Monday, March 30.
Dismissal Procedures Update:
After spring break, in preparation for grade two, students who are picked up outside by families, will not have to put their hand up and let us know when they see their families. Grade one teachers will continue to come outside with students, however, as soon as students see their families they can go to them. If they do not see their families they can stand with us. This will help build independence! To help this transition go smoothly, we ask that you continue to be on time to pick up your child and stand roughly in the same location so they know where to look/go to. Thanks!

This week we:
- learned the new Lively Letter sound 'oi'. This sound is often found in the middle and beginning of words such as 'soil', 'broil' and 'oil'. We read words and sentences with these new sounds. Ask your child to read you some of the words and phrases below.
- learned the new Lively Letter sound 'oy'. This sound is often found at the end or in the middle of words such as 'boy', 'toy' and 'royal'. We read words and sentences with these new sounds. Ask your child to read you some of the words and phrases below.
- Read the book 'The Important Book', then used a graphic organizer to plan our writing about the importance of something we know a lot about. We used these plans to help us write several sentences about the most important things about our object, idea or person.
- reviewed the heart words: talk, walk, one and two
- began new math stations to help us practice our addition skills and fluency
- worked together to carry out a scientific investigation by: asking questions, making predictions, gathering data through observations and forming a conclusion in a safe way. We wondered if water can walk! Ask your child about the steps we took to complete our investigation, what happened at the end and how the water moved. *Hint: We started with 7 cups and put water and food colouring in four of them.
At the beginning of our investigation!
At the end of our investigation!
- learned about the different Canadian coins and bills! Students practiced deciding if they could afford different objects using the different coins and bills. Ask your child about each of the coins and bills and how much they are worth!
- learned the difference between needs and wants. We played a game and decided if different things were a want or a need. Ask your child about different things in your home (or some of the objects below) and have them decide of they are a need or a want.
- played a brand new game in gym called Nine Squares! Ask you child the rules for this fun game.
