 Hello families,

Important Reminder:

There is NO school on Monday and no school until further notice. Please see Mrs. Brinson's email for more details.

During this shortened week of school we:

  • reviewed the Lively Letters for "u", "g" and "r" and read some words and sentences that contained these (and other) sounds. Ask your child to read the sounds, words and sentences below!

  • learned the heart words: 'and', 'of', 'for', 'can' and 'you'

  • practiced one way of drawing a person and labelled their important parts!

  • worked on practicing representing numbers to 20 with a partner

  • continued to practice representing numbers to 20 on our own!

  • played some throwing games with different objects outside in the field with a partner

 Things to Practice at Home:

There are some really important things your child can practice at home that will help them greatly in the class!

  • practice reading and writing the heart words we have learned so far! It's so important that kids learn these words so they can read and write sentences!

  • practice writing their name with the first letter as a capital and the rest as lowercase letters
  • have your child write the lowercase alphabet in order and see if they can get quicker at writing the letters the more that they practice!

  • practicing counting with your child! In grade one, we work towards counting to 100. So, if your child can currently count to 29, spend a few minutes every day counting a bit higher with them! If your child can already count to 100, can they skip count by 10s to 100? Next, try skip counting by 5s to 100!
  • have your child practicing writing the numbers every day so they can practice writing them more automatically! We always start at the top when writing numbers!
