We hope everyone has a fun and safe Halloween! Please ensure that, should your child wish to bring Halloween candy to school next week, they only bring one or two pieces to eat AFTER their lunch. This should not be their snack. Also, do not send lollipops. Thanks for your cooperation!
Important Reminders:
Picture Retake Day: Monday, November 17 (If you want your child to have retake pictures, please email your child's teacher)
During this shortened week of school we:
- reviewed the Lively Letters for 'e', 'l' and 's' and read some words and sentences that contained these (and other) sounds. Ask your child to read the sounds, words and sentences below!
- learned the heart words: 'was', 'as', 'have', 'can' and 'have'
- created a fun costume for Mrs. Owens and Miss Pratt and wrote the names of their costumes.
- reviewed counting to 100 and began skip counting by 10s to 100. Ask your child to count to 100 and even try counting by 10s using the hundreds chart below for help!
- played a trick or treat game in gym. Ask your child how to play!
- enjoyed seeing everyone's Halloween costumes/clothing
Things to Practice at Home:
There are some really important things your child can practice at home that will help them greatly in the class!
- practice reading and writing the heart words we have learned so far! It's so important that kids learn these words so they can read and write sentences!
- practice writing their name with the first letter as a capital and the rest as lowercase letters
- have your child write the lowercase alphabet in order and see if they can get quicker at writing the letters the more that they practice!
- practicing counting with your child! In grade one, we work towards counting to 100. So, if your child can currently count to 29, spend a few minutes every day counting a bit higher with them! If your child can already count to 100, can they skip count by 10s to 100? Next, try skip counting by 5s to 100!
- have your child practicing writing the numbers every day so they can practice writing them more automatically! We always start at the top when writing numbers!
