PLEASE NOTE: There is no school for students on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We look forward to seeing students back on Thursday, November 13.
Important Reminders:
Picture Retake Day: Monday, November 17 (If you want your child to have retake pictures, please email your child's teacher)
This week we:
- explored the importance of Remembrance Day through read alouds, videos, discussions, art with our buddies and our whole school Remembrance Day recognition.
- borrowed our first library book from our Learning Commons! Students are bringing home one book to read with their family for one week. Students need to return their book each Friday so that they can borrow a new one. Library books must be kept in the plastic bag at all times so that it does not get, ripped, wet or damaged.
- reviewed the Lively Letters for 'z', 'c', 'h', 'j', 'w', 'y', 'x' and 'qu ' and read some words and sentences that contained these (and other) sounds. Ask your child to read the sounds, words and sentences below!
- learned the heart words: 'have', 'his', 'her', 'put' and 'all'.
- wrote complete sentences about given pictures both on whiteboards and in our new writing book.
- have practiced the names of four special 2D shapes: circle, square, rectangle and triangle. We learned how to identify them when they are different sizes and in different orientations (turned different ways). Ask you child how many sides each shape has and how a square and a rectangle are different.
- practiced sorting a collection of our four shapes in different ways such as by shape, size and number of sides.
- created our special 2D shapes using playdoh, geoboards and whiteboards with colourful markers!
- played moustache ball to practice our throwing skills. Ask your child what is the name of the person who stands in the net (*hint - goalie!)
Things to practice at home to help your child's independence at school:
Please have your child practice getting outside clothing on independently and quickly at home. Help them know what order to put it on (jacket, hat and gloves/mitten last), how to zipper their jacket all by themselves and how to tie their laces if they have them.
Help your child learn how to clean up the table and floor when they spill a drink or yogurt or leave crumbs behind. We are having a lot of mess left behind after lunch and snack time. Students need to practice this at home to help keep our classroom clean and ready for learning time. Your help with this would be greatly appreciated!
