Hello families,

National Indigenous Peoples' Day (celebrated on June 21):
On June 22nd our grade one students will be participating in learning and making Bannock.  If you do NOT want your child to eat Bannock, please email your child’s homeroom teacher BEFORE the day itself.  If your child IS allowed to eat Bannock, no action is required on your part.
We will provide a Gluten Free option for those that require Gluten Free. Please inform your child's homeroom teacher if your child requires the Gluten Free option. 
Bannock ingredients include: 
Flour, baking powder, salt, water, milk, and oil

Pet Snake Classroom Visit
On Tuesday, June 16, one of our Grade One students is sharing and presenting about her pet snakes! There will be two snakes coming into the classroom for the presentation. If your child is uncomfortable or scared and does not want to be a part of this presentation, please let your child's teacher know and we can arrange for a different learning opportunity at that time.

Important Reminders:

All Learning Commons books are now overdue. Please send them back to school on Monday if your child still has one at home.

This week we:

  • learned about antonyms (opposites) and came up with lots of different examples! Students had a chance to pick a pair of opposites and draw the illustrations that would represent these words!
















  • students began bringing home their sunflower plants! Students chose from a variety of five different sunflower seeds. Ask your child if they remember which sunflower they seed they chose! Help you child take care of their sunflower and watch it grow!(We'd love to see pictures if your sunflower does bloom over the summer - just send us an email!)

  • learned how to share a group of objects equally. Ask your child to show you how to share a small collection of object between two people.












  • practiced partitioning a shape or object into two equal pieces and learned to describe each part as one-half.











  • read non-fiction books and shared personal experiences about sudden changes in our environment (storms, floods, fire and wind)
  • used all of our knowledge about addition and subtraction to solve missing addends in addition equations.









  • created a visual journal page documenting our learning about the needs of animals/gosling


  • used our imagination to add images and a background to a paper with eyes!
