Hello families,
We had a wonderful field trip to Telus Spark yesterday! We will be posting a special blog post with some photos from our trip early next week!
Important Information:
Today was our last day borrowing books from the Learning Commons. Once your child is finished with their book please have them return it back to school by Friday, June 12 at the latest.
June 9 – 6:00 – In Person School Council Meeting
June 12 – 9:15 am – Volunteer Tea for parents/grandparents that have volunteered this year
This week, we:
- learned that 'oa' says the long 'o' sound (such as in words like 'boat' and 'soap')!
- learned that 'ow' says another sound - the long 'o' sound (such as in words like 'show' and 'blow')!
- wrote a comic featuring two of our favourite characters - David and Pigeon! See a few samples below!
- learned about fact families about how addition and subtraction equations are connected in a family! Ask your child to explain and show you how to make a fact family. They should use the words 'addition equation', 'subtraction equation', 'inverse operation' and 'flip flop equation' as these are key terms/strategies students have learned. Fact families include all of these concepts!
- began exploring how to solve a mathematical word problem. We first read the problem, then figure out if we need to join (addition) or take away (subtraction). Next, we write the equation and then solve the equation to figure out the missing part.
- learned about different environments in Canada and some of the animals and plants that live in each habitat! Ask your child to name the environments below and tell you a few animals that live in each environment. (mountains, forests, lakes and rivers, prairie)
