Important Reminders:

Winter Break - NO SCHOOL - December 20 to January 4

January 5 – First day of classes

This week we:

• practiced the Lively Letter sound for the digraph: 'wh'. Ask your child to make the sound for you and read the words, phrases and sentences below. Have your child look for words with these sounds in books at home.

• learned the new Lively Letter: King Ed! This silent letter at the end of a word jumps over one consonant and tells the next vowel to say its own name. He changes the sound of five other vowel sounds (a, e, i, o, u). Have your child tell you the job of Kind Ed and read some of the words and phrases below.

• learned the new heart words: 'make', 'take', 'live' and 'give'

• made cards with special messages for our grade four buddies

• read the story Tally O'Malley and practiced representing numbers using tally marks. This will help us collect data after the winter break.

• began skip counting by 5s to 100. Have your child practice this at home is they do not already know how to do this.

• sorted natural and constructed landmarks and then drew a natural landmark and a constructed landmark in our visual journal

• drew and painted a holiday reindeer

• played Santa's Workshop in gym. Ask your child how they played this game.

• finished off the week with pjs and a movie!
