It was so nice to be able to meet with so many families last week to talk about the amazing things your children are dong in grade one! Remember, if you have any questions throughout the year please feel free to email your child's teacher at any time.

This week we:
- practiced the Lively Letters sounds for the digraphs: 'sh' and 'ch'. Ask your child to make the sounds for you and read the words, phrases and sentences below. Have your child look for words with these sounds in books at home.
- learned the new heart words: 'by', 'my', 'does' and 'goes'
- drew a picture of things we can do in the snow and then we wrote sentences beginning with "I can..." and "I like to..."
- learned how to use a given 'pattern core' to make a pattern and practiced how to identify the pattern core in patterns.
- created different representations of patterns. Make a pattern at home and as your child to show you a different representation of it.
- rotated through a variety of different patterning math stations to practice all the skills we have learned
- discovered that some animals migrate or get ready to hibernate in the fall. Ask your child to name a few animals that migrate or get ready to hibernate.
- learned the difference between natural features and constructed landmarks in our community
