Hello families,

VOLUNTEERS FOR FIELD TRIP:

Last Friday, we sent out an important email requesting volunteers for an upcoming field trip at the end of the school year. Please read the email and if you are interested in volunteering please reply with the requested information as soon as possible. If you are interested in volunteering for our field trip but do not yet have a CBE police clearance, this will take some time and the process needs to be started as soon as possible. We appreciate all those that have already responded! Please note - if we do not have enough volunteers the field trip will need to be cancelled.

Important Reminders:

February 4 – Winter Walk Day (We will share details of what they are doing for this day closer to the date)

February 11 – SPIRIT DAY: Pink or Red Day

February 11 – Popcorn Fundraiser delivery (Orders can be placed at healthyhunger.ca up to February 7)

February 12 and 13 – NO SCHOOL – Teachers’ Convention

February 16 – NO SCHOOL – Family Day


    This week, we: 

    • learned the new Lively Letter sound 'ir', like in the words 'shirt' and 'first'. Have your child read the words and sentence below!


    • learned the new Lively Letter sound 'ur', like in the words 'turn' and 'purple'. See if your child can read the words and sentences below!

    • completed a writing warm up to help us practice writing words and warm up our writing brains! Ask your child to write the words for some of these pictures at home.
    • learned the heart words: play, over, other, what
    • read the story 'Snowmen at Night' and brainstormed things that we think snowmen might do at night. We drew a picture of our snowman doing a fun activity at night then wrote sentences to describe what it is doing.
    • worked independently to count a group of objects by using our knowledge of skip counting by 5s and 10s. Give your child a group of objects at home between 20 and 100 and ask them to show you how they can put them into groups then use skip counting to tell you how many objects there all all together.



    • learned about the word 'data' (gathering and collecting information). We practiced asking questions to our friends to gather information on specific questions such as "Do you have a cat?"









    • began learning about the many emotions we can have. Ask your child to name some different emotions (i.e. happy, sad, surprised, angry, etc)
    • explored Indigenous landmarks around our province, as well as their Indigenous name, such the Athabasca River, Alberta Prairies, Rocky Mountains, Boreal Forest, The Badlands  and Writing on Stone Provincial Park and learned why they were given their special name by Indigenous People.
    • were divided into four small teams and played basketball games against each of the teams
