Hello families,

We want to wish all mothers a very Happy Mother's Day! We hope you have a special weekend!

EGG-citing UPDATE!
Our four goose eggs are in lockdown! During this time we can't open the incubator in order to maintain stable conditions for our eggs! We anticipate that they will hatch on or around Monday but in case they hatch over the weekend, we have set up a live stream video so us teachers can keep an eye on them but we also want to share this exciting time with families and students. Please feel free to click on this link over the weekend to check in on our eggs to see if there is any hatching activity!

Important Reminders:

We are excited to be able to visit Telus Spark Science Centre on June 4! Field trip permission forms were sent home with students on Monday. Please fill them out and return them to school as soon as possible. If you previously let us know that you could volunteer, there is an extra form that you will need to fill so you can join us. We thank all the parents that are able to join us for the day. Without you, we would not be able to go!

May 4 – 15 – Food Bank Food Drive (if you are able to donate food, please send with your child)

May 14 - Family Dance - 6:00 to 8:00 (See the flier that was sent home for information on how to buy tickets)

May 15 – Non-Instruction Day – NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS

May 18 – Victoria Day – NO SCHOOL

This week we:

  • practiced reading words that contain the soft 'c' sound! The 'c' says the /s/ sound when it is followed by an 'e', 'i' or 'y'!

  • used a picture prompt to help us write about what adventure the three kids in the picture could have with the dragon! Ask your child what adventure they wrote about!

  • had a special guest come in to talk about nutrition! This food expert taught us about healthy food choices and helped us to make yummy yogurt parfaits!

  • practiced subtracting zero and subtracting all. This will help us with our new subtraction fast facts! Ask your child what subtraction fast facts are and get them to answer some subtraction equations like the ones below.

  • practiced the subtraction strategy of drawing pictures to help us solve equations!

  • learned about and practiced another new subtraction strategy called 'Use a Number Line'. We figured out that when we add using a number line, we jump forward and the numbers get bigger. When we subtract using a number line, we jump backward and the number get smaller.

  • sorted a collection of pictures in a variety of different ways! Then we all practiced sorting the pictures into plants and animals! We continued to have discussions this week around the similarities and differences between plants and animals as well as the basic things that plants and animals need to survive.

  • continued to practice our badminton skills in the gym! Ask your child what we game we played to practice our skills!
