- counting backwards from 20 to 0
- skip counting by 2s to 20. Many students have mastered this skill! If your our child cannot yet skip count by 2s, please practice this skill at home.
- learned how to read a 2-syllable word with 'y' at the end! (The 'y' says the long 'e' sound!) This happens in words like 'puppy' or 'rusty'!
- learned about Canada Geese babies, also known as 'Goslings'! We read non-fiction books and watched videos to help us learn about how they hatch, what they look like, what they need to survive and what they can do. Through out the year we have talked about different cycles. This week we learned about a new cycle - the life cycle of a Canada goose. We used this information to fill out our TIDE planner and then write multiple sentences about what we know about goslings.
- began exploring what subtraction is and learned the subtraction strategies: 'Make a Model' and 'Use a Number Bond'. Ask you child to tell you what our new important words mean: subtract, minus, difference.
- explored what animals and people do in the spring that is different from other seasons. We also sorted clothing into two groups: spring clothes and not spring clothes and then filled out our comparison of clothing over the seasons.
- reviewed what identity is and brainstormed the important parts of our own identities (food, clothing, art, language, celebrations). We shared these with partners. We focused on celebrations and made a list of all the different celebrations that families celebrate in our grade one class.
- began learning about and practicing badminton skills in gym.
